Year 10 Sunderland student, Akarsh Shankar shares his unique insights from studying abroad in Madrid, Spain at Kings College School Soto De Viñuelas – The British School of Madrid. For many, the thought of travelling to studying abroad in a foreign country would be a daunting prospect, but with the right support systems in place, (and friend Jasmer to accompanying him)! Akarsh discovered it to be a truly enriching experience and one that he would absolutely recommend to his fellow students.

“Back yourself.” Alex Chapman’s best advice is to always have confidence in yourself and take that final leap. As we sit in the school boardroom, he tells me about his journey from Sunderland to being TV3’s sports journalist, broadcaster, and commentator. It’s totally undeniable: he’s the kind of person who just has that sparkle. The effortless sort of charisma that turns heads when he walks into a room and the charm that allows him to connect with every person he meets. I notice it as he recounts his time at school, and I notice it as he affectionately describes all the reasons he’s grateful for the teachers he had growing up. Alex is someone you can’t help but like.

ACG Sunderland has achieved unprecedented academic success in the 2023 Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE), achieving the prestigious award (Best Across Three A-Level subjects) and doubling the school’s 2022 award tally.

For Amelia Lee, winning the Young Reporters for the Environment's Litter Less Campaign was a huge thrill. The gifted wordsmith created a beautifully written and well-researched article on the loss of biodiversity in her local area, which impressed the international judging panel and resulted in her gold medal finish.

As a well-deserving recipient of a Top Achiever Scholarship to the University of Auckland, Isha Takyar is incredibly excited to face the challenges of tertiary study in 2022. But for the moment, the new graduate is grateful for the wealth of opportunities and experiences that made her College years so memorable and enabled her to thrive.
