A Passion for English and the Keys to Success

Anna-Maree’s enthusiasm for the subject was evident throughout her studies. She found every assignment and lesson engaging, with each paper offering a new and enjoyable challenge. Her structured approach to writing played a pivotal role in her success. “I planned efficiently before writing and used techniques taught in class, such as organising paragraphs to persuade the reader,” she explains. This method proved to be an effective strategy in forming well-structured and compelling essays.

Her study habits included practicing past papers, conducting research, and actively seeking feedback. “Feedback and practicing papers were efficient and rewarding,” she notes, crediting these techniques with refining her writing and analytical skills. Throughout her journey, the guidance of her teacher, Dr. Olsen, was instrumental. “Dr. Olsen always gave helpful and positive feedback, as well as encouragement,” she says, highlighting the impact of a supportive mentor.

Challenges and Growth

Despite her success, Anna-Maree faced challenges along the way. “The short time available in the exam, as well as the word count requirements, were difficult,” she admits. However, she approached these obstacles with resilience, ultimately strengthening her confidence in her abilities. “My dedication resulted in my achievement, and my confidence in my skills has grown as a result.”

For students preparing for AS Level English or other Cambridge exams, Anna-Maree offers valuable advice: “Enjoy and have fun with the work and activities. Practice and receive feedback for improvement.” Her experience highlights the importance of both passion and perseverance in academic success.

The Next Chapter

Now a student at Media Design School, Anna-Maree finds that her strong foundation in English continues to serve her well. “My interest and skills in English come in handy and make writing assignments enjoyable,” she shares. Studying the subject has also provided her with a broader perspective, helping her recognise and articulate different viewpoints. “I’ve learned that there are many different ideas, opinions, and views when it comes to topics. It’s a useful and interesting skill that enhances communication in life.”

When asked for a book recommendation, Anna-Maree suggests Maximum Ride by James Patterson. “I read this book at a young age, and it had a big impact on my love for books, stories, and creativity. The writing and creativity within the book are impressive and striking. It’s suitable for all ages and leaves a lasting impact on the reader.”

Anna-Maree’s journey is an inspiring example of how passion, perseverance, and support can lead to remarkable success. Her story serves as motivation for students embarking on their own academic journeys, proving that with dedication and the right guidance, excellence is within reach.
